Before boarding our Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong, we spent some time at the dnata Lounge in Terminal 1 of Changi Airport. Cathay Pacific doesn’t have their own lounge in Changi, but passengers can use the dnata lounge, which is a contract lounge operated by the Dubai-based dnata group (Dubai National Air Transport Agency).
Cathay Pacific introduced their A350 service between Vancouver and Hong Kong on March 28th, 2017. This route is pretty special because it was the very first A350 route to Canada. There was a pretty big celebration on the day of the inaugural flight, and we even braved the torrential downpour to snap a photo. The route operates every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 9:30am.
The Cathay Pacific Lounge in Vancouver was recently renovated to take on Cathay’s redesigned theme, similar to The Pier Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport. We were really excited to visit this lounge, especially because I was so bitter that it was closed last time I was taking JAL’s 787. We decided to head to the airport early to give ourselves plenty of time at the lounge.
One of the highlights of our Singapore trip was staying at the Marina Bay Sands hotel. Ever since seeing amazing photos of the Infinity Pool overlooking the Singapore skyline, it’s been on my list of places to visit. I had booked a Premier City View Room for two nights for $1386 SGD (which is about the same in CAD). Premier City View Rooms are guaranteed to be 19th floor or higher, facing the harbor and the Singapore skyline.
After arriving in Tokyo, we headed straight for the Sakura lounge. There are two separate Sakura lounges in Terminal 2 of Narita International Airport: one in the main building, and one in the satellite building. Our flight to Singapore was leaving from the satellite terminal building, so we decided to go to that one since our layover wasn’t that long. It was a smaller lounge and also lacked the shower facilities.
On the morning of our trip, we wheeled seven pieces of luggage out to the taxi, bound for the airport. For a travelling party of three, I thought seven bags was a bit ridiculous, but oh well. The check-in counters opened at 10am for our 1pm flight, so I had booked a taxi for 9:30am. I had hoped to maximize the amount of time we could spend at Cathay Pacific’s new lounge in Vancouver.
Ever since I started my hobby of collecting miles and using it to redeem premium travel, I’ve always wanted to book a trip with my parents to show them what it’s like, since they have only traveled in economy. I knew they would love the pampering, but I also wanted to show them that travelling in business class isn’t as unattainable as most people think it is.
Introduction: Cinque Terre Nestled along the north western coast of Italy is a group of five fishing villages known collectively as Cinque Terre, or “Five Lands”. Their relative remoteness from other major cities in Italy has allowed the area to preserve its culture and authentic Italian feel. The dramatic scenery of the Italian coastline, along with the towns built up densely upon the steep cliffs makes it one of the most photographed locations in Italy, and is attracting more and more tourists every year.
